Composed for Brown University MEME program course 2230.

S T A L K E D investigates composing/improvising with preexisting sonic material and the legacy of tape music in the era of Web 2.0. Questions of authorship and agency are addressed with twenty-seven precisely cued Youtube fragments that are triggered in Pure Data and then processed/manipulated individually in real time. All fragments featured are sourced from Tarkovsky’s 1979 film “Stalker,” with the exception of an excerpt from Tchaikovsky’s “October.” The intended result is a fluid, evocative sonic atmosphere reminiscent of “Stalker”‘s post-apocolyptic dreamscape.
